Everything else
Elections
- Only the City Council race is part of the August 12 primary, which reduces five candidates to four for the General Election. Voting is primarily by mail, with voting centers open on Election Day. Municipal elections

Fireworks
- Fireworks may not be discharged on city property or in any city park. The city notes more than 60 fires in Utah so far this year, affecting over 250 people.
- Syracuse has not issued additional restrictions this year; the newsletter points residents to the Davis County fireworks restriction map.
- Safety reminders include keeping water or a hose nearby, never relighting a malfunctioning firework, supervising children and pets, and soaking used and unused fireworks before disposal.
Water and public works
- Connecting a sprinkler system to the city’s culinary (drinking) water supply is illegal and can contaminate the whole culinary system. If a violation is found, the city may have to shut down the secondary water system for everyone, and violators will be prosecuted. Sprinklers must be connected to secondary water only.
- If you suspect a cross connection or are unsure, call Public Works at 801-825-7235 or submit a fix-it request. The full update also covers storm water, tree trimming, and road construction. Read the Public Works update
City government
- Council meetings are at City Hall at 6 PM and can be attended in person, by Zoom, or watched on YouTube. You can subscribe to the council’s Notify Me list for agendas.

Food for kids
- Three summer food programs are listed: free school lunches through July 23, Utah Food Bank meals through August 8 for youth 18 and under, and SUN Bucks (Summer EBT) to help families buy food while schools are closed.
Two notes on choices I made:
- Council meetings are in the body but not in
events./events/already lists council meetings fromdata/notices/, so putting July 8 and July 22 in the frontmatter would double-list them. - Senior activity locations are omitted, not set to the Community Center. The newsletter gives only the dates, so I left the location out and pointed at the 801-614-9660 city line per the private-resident rule rather than inferring a venue.
I also dropped the single adoptable-pet feature and the “View this email in your browser” and social links as filler, and the business that appears only behind an external vendor URL (Farmers Market section had no text at all).
