Everything else

From the mayor

  • The mayor writes that transparency was a stated goal when he took office and that the most impactful change has been a policy of pushing as many debates, discussions, and decisions as possible into public meetings, so all five council members get the same information at the same time. Read the Mayor’s Message

City Council

  • The city posted a recap of the significant actions taken at the August 12, 2025 business meeting. Read the City Council update
  • You can get meeting notices and agendas by subscribing to the City Council’s Notify Me list.

Water and streets

  • Fall watering guidance: no watering between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, none on Sunday, and no-watering days by zone, divided by Antelope Drive and 2000 W (northwest Tuesday, northeast Wednesday, southwest Thursday, southeast Friday). Fix leaks and keep filters clean. Utah Weekly Watering Guide
  • Roadwork underway: Sand Ridge Parkway widening (2150 South to 2700 South), 3000 West widening and roundabout (Antelope Drive to 2025 South), and underground utility work for the six-way roundabout at 2700 S and 2000 W. Read the Public Works update
  • Park strip trees must follow city code: at least 5 feet from underground utilities, 10 feet from overhead lines, 10 feet from a hydrant, 35 feet from a street corner, in a strip at least 4 feet wide, with 20, 30, or 40 foot spacing by tree size and an approved species. Tree Guide

Parks and recreation

  • The Farmers Market runs Thursdays from 5-8 PM at Centennial Park with local farmers and vendors.
  • Fremont Park upgrades: the old playground and pavilion were removed, utility and drainage work is done, and the new playground is open. The project is funded by the RAP program, including $90,688 for the playground and about $60,000 for the pavilion.
  • Fitness classes at $3 drop-in or $20 for a 10-time punch pass: Step It Up! at 9 AM Mondays and Fridays, Pump it Up! at 9 AM Tuesdays. Fitness Classes
  • Recurring senior activities: Think Tuesday games, plus pickleball and yoga on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Senior activities

Safety

  • Back-to-school reminders: look both ways, follow crossing guards, skip the earbuds and phones while walking, and use a set safe route. Utah law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians in both marked and unmarked crosswalks, and the newsletter explains standard, ladder, and HAWK signal crossings.
  • The city is asking residents to fill out a short Home Safety Survey.
  • Davis County reports rabid bats are found in Utah every year. Keep pet vaccinations current, stay away from wild animals, wash and get care for any bite or scratch, and report any bat found in a sleeping area. The Division of Wildlife Resources northern office is 801-476-2740.

  • The city is hiring and posts openings on its jobs page.
  • Employee spotlight: Passport Agent Cinthya Rhoades, who joined the city in August 2022, also serves as a notary public, is bilingual in Spanish, and has twice won Employee of the Month.
  • The newsletter’s term of the month is “municipal,” meaning anything run, funded, or regulated by the city rather than the state, county, or federal government.
  • Davis County’s Abuse Prevention Workgroup published a Healthy Relationship Education Resources booklet listing classes and programs. Questions go to [email protected].
