Public Works Update, September 2025: Secondary Water, Tree Trimming, Leaks, & Road Work

In short

Secondary water is turned off on October 1, so Public Works asks residents to cut watering time and frequency as the weather cools. Daytime watering is prohibited from 10 AM to 6 PM, and each quarter of the city has assigned no-watering days. Fall is also the time to trim trees back to 7 feet above sidewalks and 13.5 feet above streets. Three road projects are underway on Sand Ridge Parkway, 3000 West, and at the 2700 South and 2000 West roundabout.

Everything else

Secondary water

  • Water no more than two days out of the five available days each week, and skip watering when it rains. Sources: Page 1
  • Daytime watering is prohibited from 10 AM to 6 PM to reduce evaporation. Sources: Page 1
  • No-watering days by area, with Antelope Drive and 2000 West as the dividing lines: northwest no Sunday or Tuesday, northeast no Sunday or Wednesday, southwest no Sunday or Thursday, southeast no Sunday or Friday. Sources: Page 1
  • Fix leaks and keep filters clean. Even a small leak can cut system pressure. Sources: Page 1

Trees

  • Trim trees along roads and sidewalks to 7 feet of clearance above sidewalks and 13.5 feet above streets, so garbage trucks, mail carriers, delivery trucks, and street maintenance vehicles do not have to swing into traffic, and so signs and streetlights stay visible. Sources: Page 2
  • Trimming while leaves are still on the branches means less raking later. Sources: Page 2

Spills and storm drains

  • Watch for oil, grease, hydraulic fluid, fuel, or other leaks around buildings, equipment, garbage cans, barrels, and fueling stations. These pollutants can reach storm drains and harm the water supply, so fix, replace, or clean up leaks promptly. Sources: Page 2
