Everything else
From the mayor
- The mayor writes that the city council made a deliberate decision a few years ago to be the best place to celebrate Halloween rather than compete with other cities’ spending on more commercial holidays, which is how Scarycuse started. He notes the city swaps its logo and some banners for a few weeks and has added activities for the season. Read the full mayor’s message

- Keep landscaping trimmed back so utility lids stay visible, which lets crews shut off a valve quickly in an emergency.
- The full update also covers road construction, cross connections, and pollutants. Read the Public Works update
Safety
- For Fire Prevention Week, the Fire Department covers lithium-ion batteries: follow the manufacturer’s charging guidelines, use only the charger and cable that came with the device, do not charge on beds or couches or under pillows, unplug when fully charged, and never put the batteries in the trash. They can be recycled at the Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Facility at the Davis Landfill.
- The CERT Academy is a free blended learning course on responding to disasters. Register by October 16 at 801-614-9614.
- The city asks residents to fill out a short Home Safety Survey.
- The 9 PM Routine: bring valuables inside, lock the vehicle, lock the house and close garage doors, turn on outside lights, and activate security systems.
- With earlier sunsets and Halloween coming, drivers are asked to watch for pedestrians near schools and crosswalks, slow down in low visibility, stop for pedestrians in crosswalks, obey school zone limits, and never drive impaired.
