In short
Winter parking restrictions start November 15 and run until March 15: no street parking between midnight and 6:00 AM, and no street parking during the daytime when it is snowing. Violations are fined whether or not it is snowing. After a storm ends, residents have 24 hours to clear snow and ice from the sidewalk, and snow cleared from a driveway or sidewalk may not be put in the street. The city’s voluntary green waste curbside program runs April 1 to November 30, so this year’s season ends November 30.

Everything else
Parking and snow
- Parking violations are enforced with fines regardless of whether it is snowing. The city asks residents to have an off-street parking space that does not block sidewalks. See City Code 11-20-050.
- Snow removed from a driveway or sidewalk may not be deposited in the street. Snow removed from the street may be placed in the gutter. See ordinance 4-05160(c).
Green waste program
- The green waste program is voluntary and covers lawn clippings, leaves, clippings from bushes and shrubs, and similar yard waste. It is an ongoing curbside service rather than a one-time seasonal pickup.
- To sign up, contact the Syracuse City Utility Department or submit an online request. Participants get an extra green container, picked up weekly on their regular trash day by a different truck. Containers must be kept at least six months.
Road construction
- For updates on road and utility projects, timelines, and closures, subscribe to the Public Works Notify Me list or follow the city’s social media. The city also notes road construction can be viewed in Google Earth maps.
