In short
Public Works lists steps to keep home pipes from freezing: insulate exposed pipes, disconnect and drain outdoor hoses and faucets, let a faucet drip on cold nights, and open cabinet doors under sinks. For snow season, do not park on the street, clear sidewalks within 24 hours after a storm ends, and do not push snow back into the street. Live Christmas trees go to the curb by 6:00 AM on Monday, January 5, 2026 for pickup January 5 and 6.
Dates and deadlines
- By 6:00 AM Monday, January 5, 2026 place live Christmas trees on the curb; pickup runs January 5 and 6.
- Within 24 hours after each snowstorm ends clear snow and ice from your sidewalk.
Everything else
Frozen pipes (p. 1)
- Common causes are quick temperature drops, thermostats set too low, and poor insulation.
- Insulate pipes in crawl spaces and the attic, since exposed pipes freeze more easily.
- Before winter, disconnect garden hoses and, if you have an indoor shutoff valve, use it to shut off and drain the pipes leading to outside faucets.
- Let warm water trickle overnight when it is cold, preferably from a faucet on an outside wall.
- Open cabinet doors so heat reaches uninsulated pipes under sinks and appliances on exterior walls.
Snow removal and streets (p. 2)
- Do not park vehicles on the street (City Code 11-20-050). Parked cars block snowplows, and parking violations with fines will be enforced.
- Do not cast snow from walks or private driveways back into the city street (City Code 4-05-160C).
- Store large quantities of salt or de-icing product in a covered container if it is kept outside.
- Public Works asks drivers to slow down, be cautious, and help others while commuting.
Christmas tree requirements (p. 2)
- Trees cannot be buried under snow, tree stands must be removed, and all lights, ornaments, and tinsel must come off.
- No flocked trees. Trees taller than 8 feet must be cut in half.
