Mayor's Message, May 2026: Syracuse Recognizing Veterans for America250 Celebration

In short

The mayor’s May column is about the city’s America250 project: a veterans memorial in a Syracuse park. All fundraising from the America250 Syracuse celebrations will go toward the memorial, and the mayor writes that he does not intend to use local tax dollars for it, with the bulk expected to come from federal grants and large donations. The preliminary site is newly acquired land next to Jensen Park and Fire Station 32, which the city got at no cost for public park space. Fundraising and grant writing could take more than a year, so the memorial is not expected to be finished in time for the July celebration.
