In short
Secondary water is available May 8 through September 18, 2026, but the supply is reduced by drought, so watering is limited by schedule and enforcement will be active this summer. No watering is allowed between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, on Sundays, or on your quadrant’s assigned day. Four road projects are underway, including the 2000 W six-way roundabout, which is fully closed until about May 16 for paving.
Dates and deadlines
- May 8 to September 18, 2026: secondary water season.
- May 8 to 24: water on two days out of the five available days each week.
- Until approximately May 16: the 2000 W six-way roundabout is completely closed for paving.
- Memorial Day to Labor Day: water on three days out of the five available days each week.
- September 8 to 18: water on two days out of the five available days each week.
- Within 15 days of notification: repair any known leaks.
Everything else
Secondary water restrictions
- No watering from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and no watering on Sunday. Use limited run times.
- One more day off each week depends on your quadrant, with the city divided by Antelope Drive and 2000 West: northwest no Tuesday, northeast no Wednesday, southwest no Thursday, southeast no Friday.
- Do not let excess water pool onto neighboring properties, streets, or storm drains. Water use will be monitored for noncompliance.
Programs and incentives
- Weber Basin Water offers free classes on putting in a new yard, and has rebates that may apply to replacing lawn with a more water-efficient alternative. Check whether your project qualifies before starting.
- The city notes Tahoma 31 bermudagrass as an option for new or replacement sod: a drought-tolerant, cold-hardy hybrid turf recently approved for use in Northern Utah that uses up to 50 to 70 percent less water than bluegrass.
Yard waste and fertilizer
- Keep grass clippings and granular fertilizer off streets, sidewalks, and driveways, where they wash into storm drains. Sweep or blow the excess back into the grass, and hold any lawn care company you hire to the same.
- Clippings carry phosphorus and fertilizer carries nitrogen, both major water pollutants. Leaving them on the curb, gutter, or street violates city ordinance 4.05.160 (B) and could result in a fine.
Construction safety
- Slow down near construction sites, watch for workers and equipment, and follow posted signs.
