Public Works Update, August 2026: Water Conservation and Pressure, Cross Connections, and Tree Trimming

In short

Secondary water conservation guidelines are being enforced this summer, and violations carry fines. Public Works lists steps homeowners can take to fix low secondary water pressure, and warns that connecting a sprinkler system to the culinary (drinking) water line is illegal, can contaminate the whole system, and can lead to prosecution. The update also sets tree clearance heights for sidewalks and streets and gives the status of three road projects.

Everything else

Water

  • Secondary water conservation guidelines remain in effect, and water enforcement is in place this summer with fines for violations. Sources: Page 1
  • For low secondary water pressure: clean sprinkler filters and clogged heads, check for yard leaks or damp spots, water during off-peak hours while still observing restrictions, run zones one at a time, use low-flow or rotary heads, clean homeowner-installed filters or regulators, and clear soil or plants from sprinkler heads. • Cross connections between irrigation and the city’s drinking water supply are illegal. They can contaminate the culinary system, may force the city to shut down water for everyone, and offenders can be prosecuted. Sprinkler systems must connect only to secondary irrigation water. Property and streets

  • Keep debris out of storm drains: clear gutters, driveways, and parking areas, trim plants hanging over curbs, put swept debris in the garbage rather than the gutter, and clean surfaces regularly. Sources: Page 2
  • Trees need at least 7 feet of clearance above sidewalks and 13.5 feet above streets and parking areas. Keep limbs and shrubs clear of street signs and streetlamps, and plant far enough from corners to keep driver visibility. Sources: Page 2

Road construction

  • The 3000 W roundabout is open in both directions, with construction continuing through the summer. Sources: Page 2
  • A new intersection is being built at SR-193 and 2500 W. Sources: Page 2
