Public Works Update, September 2026: Secondary Water and Cross-Connections

In short

Fall watering changes start September 8, 2026: cut secondary watering to two days per week. Secondary water shuts off for the season on Friday, September 18. Public Works asks homeowners to close their own shut-off valve at the end of the season, and never to touch the city-owned valve. Watering restrictions by zone stay in effect through the end of the water season.

Everything else

Secondary water

  • Homeowners are asked to close their personal shut-off valve once the season ends, which helps prevent flooding or unintended water flow when the system is turned back on in the spring. Sources: Page 1
  • Residents must not operate or access the city-owned secondary water valve. Sources: Page 1
  • If a property has no personal shut-off valve, Public Works says the coming months are a good time to install or upgrade one, so you can respond quickly to a broken pipe or sprinkler failure. Sources: Page 1

Watering restrictions, in effect through the end of the water season

  • No watering between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and no watering on Sunday. Sources: Page 1
  • Watering days are set by zone, with the city divided geographically by Antelope Drive and 2000 W: Northwest on Tuesday, Northeast on Wednesday, Southwest on Thursday, Southeast on Friday. Sources: Page 1

Cross connections

  • A cross connection is when polluted water or chemicals can mix with the city’s clean drinking water, which is a risk to water quality and public health. Sources: Page 2
  • Improper or unapproved changes to irrigation systems or piping can contaminate the culinary water supply. These connections are illegal, can disrupt service for the whole community, and offenders may be prosecuted under SCC 4.15.450. Sources: Page 2
  • Make sure your sprinkler system is connected only to secondary irrigation water, never to the drinking water supply. Sources: Page 2
  • Report sprinklers running after secondary water is shut off on September 18, or any suspected cross-connection, to Public Works at 801-825-7235. Sources: Page 2
